Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not able to accept any new students into our program for the 2020/2021 season, which runs until June 30. If spaces become available, we will post that information here, so feel free to check back in!
Please Note: There are changes to the way we are running lessons due to COVID-19, in accordance with Public Health regulations. Below is how our lessons typically run. Students will be advised of procedures in place which change accordingly as restrictions change.
We offer a wide variety of options for lessons to suit everyone's goals and budgets. All of our lessons include education on horses, behaviour, communication, herd dynamics, horsemanship and horse care in addition to riding. Lessons run from Sept - June with short breaks (for the horses) every 3-4 months.
From September - June, lessons for ages 6+ run Monday - Thursday, 3:00PM - 7:00PM and Saturdays from 9AM - 12PM.
Students must arrive AT LEAST 20 minutes before their lesson time for grooming/tacking up their horse or pony, and stay 15 minutes after their lesson for un-tacking and clean-up, so plan for at least 1/2 an hour on top of their riding time. Horse care is part of the lesson!
We do have a few helmets at our barn for trial lessons, but once riders sign up for a full session ALL riders must have their own ASTM/SEI approved riding helmet, boots that cover the ankle (such as rain boots) and long pants in order to ride.
Evening/weekend lessons for ages 5+ are $40 +HST per person, per lesson paid monthly in advance
Daytime lessons are $40 +HST for a 30min private or $60 +HST for a 60 min private per person, per lesson paid monthly in advance
Receive a 10% discount by paying up front (only available until Semester Start Date and not applicable to Lil' Leadliners)
Additional family members save an extra 5% (not applicable to Lil' Leadliners)
A limited number of every other week lessons also available
A trial lesson is required for new students and available for the same price as a regular lesson to try out a lesson or two before signing up for regular lessons
A deposit equivalent to 1 month of lessons is required upon registration and lesson times will be assigned based on preferences in order of registration deposits received
Once season is full, new registrations will be placed on a waiting list. There is no cost to be placed on our waiting list; only once a lesson time can be offered will a deposit and 1st month's fees be required

Lil' Leadliners Program:
For kids under 6
These little riders are not quite ready for full length, structured lessons so we offer a shorter 20 min session that starts them on the path to learning the basics of riding. Children will be kept on a lead line for all riding. These sessions generally run Saturday mornings and are $27.50/child/lesson +HST. We have a very limited number of spots for this program, so early registration is encouraged.
Beginner Program 6-8
For ages 6-8 without prior experience
The beginner program is designed to give students the opportunity to experience all aspects of horses in a safe and fun environment for both the horse and rider. In this program, students will be introduced to the basic concepts of horsemanship, behaviour, anatomy, horse care, stable care and riding with an emphasis on important life skills such as leadership, effective communication, self confidence and self esteem. Lessons are structured as 30 minute, 1-on-1 private sessions and all riding is on lead line or lunge line on a variety of appropriate horses. Students can advance to the Foundation program once they're 8 years of age AND can demonstrate all Beginner skills at “good” or better.
Beginner Program 8+
For anyone over the age of 8 without prior experience
Students over the age of 8 generally develop and progress much faster than younger children, so this program is designed to allow students to progress at their own speed. In this program, students will begin with the opportunity to experience all aspects of horses in a safe and fun environment for both the horse and rider. Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of horsemanship, behaviour, anatomy, horse care, stable care and riding with an emphasis on important life skills such as leadership, effective communication, self confidence and self esteem. Lessons are structured as 30 minute, 1-on-1 private sessions and riding starts on lead line or lunge line on a variety of appropriate horses, then progresses to independent riding (off lunge). Students can advance to the Foundation program once they can demonstrate all Beginner skills at “good” or better. There is no minimum or maximum amount of time students will be in this program; students advance when their skill set is appropriate for moving on.
For ages 8+ who have graduated from the Beginner Program or have been assessed at this level in an Trial Lesson
The Foundation program is designed to give students a complete and solid set of foundation skills they can build from and take in any direction they may choose to go in their riding. No matter how advanced our skills and techniques become, we always take our foundation with us. This program will also expose students to many different disciplines and specialties along the way, allowing the student to evaluate which ones they enjoy. Students are assigned a horse and will work with that same horse for a full month. This format allows the horse and student to bond with one another, form and explore the fundamentals of partnership. At the end of the month, students are evaluated on their foundation skills and partnership with their assigned horse in addition to the progression of their other skills in riding, anatomy, horse care and stable care. Students will either be reassigned the same horse or assigned a new horse for the 2nd month, depending on their instructor’s evaluation and recommendation.
Foundation lessons are up to 60 minutes and are structured in small groups between 2 – 4 students to allow the students to work together, learn from each other and learn to be around multiple horses and riders at the same time. In addition to the life skills of leadership, effective communication, self confidence and self esteem, this program also includes emphasis on collaboration, creative problem solving, team work, offering and accepting constructive criticism.
We have a number of additional programs available for students who have decided that horses and riding is their passion. We are a recognized Canadian Pony Club Riding Centre providing the opportunity for students to participate in events throughout the Western Ontario Region. We also offer a Part Board program as well as a very unique Horse Ownership program for students who have demonstrated prerequisite skills and who are ready for more commitment.
**Please Note: In addition to horses, we have a very friendly dog, cats and chickens who call our farm home and are free to roam wherever they choose.**
Lesson prices are subject to change without notice.
Free-lance lessons are $60 / private lesson or $40 / semi-private or group lesson if you live within 30min of Grimsby. Travel fees apply if you live outside of that radius.
Looking for something a bit more in-depth and interactive than a lesson? We also offer "mini-clinics" that can be hosted by you at your farm. Mini-clinics are approximately 4-5 hours in length and include:
Group discussion with interactive activities (off the horse)
Online/ground sessions (with the horse)
As a host, you can choose from a wide range of focus topics for the mini-clinic. Contact us to discuss all the amazing options to choose from!
Too far away to come to us or have us come to you? Try a Video Coaching session! I have experienced first-hand how amazing and valuable a video coaching session can be. All you need to do is take a video of yourself, upload it to YouTube (max 10min length), send us the link along with a brief summary of what you would like some help with, then we will arrange a time to have a video call with you to discuss your video and offer you strategies and advice. Video Coaching is $45 / session. Contact us to learn more!
